Hello! I’m Erika Deery, children’s author and creator of Millie books.
I’ve always liked drawing and creating stories. So, when my daughter was born, I wrote her a story about a little girl who goes to space. I wanted to give her a story in Spanish that was just for her. When I saw the final product, I thought about making my book bilingual so families like mine could read in both languages. This is how Millie’s World was born. A world full of imagination and adventures for little kids that can be read in English and Spanish.
I always looked for books to read with my kids and in no time, I could see the massive difference between books for boys and books for girls. Books for boys had adventures, pirates, monsters and dinosaurs. All of them, showing kids achievement and independence. Books with girl protagonists still had a lot of princesses, ballerinas and fairies. Most of them showing being pretty and cute. There is nothing wrong with those things. But girls are just as capable as boys, and that if they want to be scientists or explorers they can too! After all, you can’t be what you can’t see!
